Mélodie de la jupe

2023

Mélodie de la jupe

Choreographie: Baptiste Bersoux and Narumi Saso

Tanz: Narumi Saso

Duration: 15-20min

A solo “Mélodie de la jupe” is inspired by a timeless letter from her mother to her in the future. Turning points in life and emotions are along with the fluttering of skirts. Always so. We fulfill our days as we grow old, will the hem of our skirts only grow heavier, or it will be different.

“Eyes far away. No need to strain yourself.

My eyes are black.

My hair is frizzy and hard to manage.

When I'm on the phone, my voice rises to a higher pitch.

When I'm angry, I will be quiet.

A name which is wished to be beautiful.

All my itchiness, all my shyness.

My realistic fantasy of 155cm.

Those black eyes, they've grown up.

I'm still me.

I'm still fixing my hair.

Black eyes are still black.”

Visual inspiration comes from the poetic vision of photographer Francesca Woodman and a book for child “THE PINK GIRAFFE” by Rieko Nakagawa.

It's about then and now.

It is about smells, textures, tastes, sounds, words and emotions.

“Where am I going, and what have I passed so far?

And are the places I dream of still in dreams?”
